Hello and welcome to Episode 23. Today’s guest on the Not Just About Copy podcast is Rebekah Lambert.
Rebekah plies her trade as a virtual marketing officer that helps changemaking, purpose-orientated start-ups, organisations and entrepreneurs with their content, strategy and community building needs. She’s the founder of the Freelance Jungle, a grassroots community that ends the isolation and raises the knowledge bar for thousands of Australian and New Zealand freelancers. She reminds freelancers that stress has a productivity cost through online community and a “pay what you can afford” approach to education.
For her efforts, the Freelance Jungle won the Workplace Wellbeing category at the Wayahead 2019 Mental Health Matters Awards. A believer in freelancing as a way to reinvent your working life, Rebekah produced a free virtual festival for Australians made redundant by Covid in 2021 with funding from Facebook Australia and Good2Give.
When she’s not in the Jungle, she’s exploring the Illawarra with her labradorks and hairy musician partner, creating noise of a different kind.
I personally discovered the Freelance Jungle in my early years of freelancing and found it an absolute goldmine of helpful advice and a great place to connect with fellow freelancers. So it was a real treat to have Rebekah join me on the podcast.
In this episode we talk about:
- Why creative burnout happens and how we can reengage with creativity, curiosity and ourselves again
- Internalised capitalism and the impacts of the protestant work ethic on mental health
- How together we can come together and advocate for fellow freelancers as a united industry
- Why you should put yourselves in situations where you’re not the smartest person in the room
- How information digesting and creative binges help Rebekah continue to create meaningful authentic content
- How blog shells and the buying journey can help inform your content plan, and
- How’s she’s aligning her values with her work to be able to feel good about her legacy.
In the meantime, I hope you enjoy my conversation with Rebekah Lambert.
