A website copy audit for the insights you’re missing

When was the last time you looked at your own website? Like, really looked to check it’s working hard for you? Even if you did, would you know what to look for?

Perhaps you feel like there’s room for improvement with your content, but you’re not sure where to start. Or you’re thinking about enlisting a copywriter to rewrite your site, but wondering if it’s worth the investment.

These are the kinds of questions swirling around in your head:

  • Are my headlines strong enough?
  • Is my copy too long?
  • Are my offerings clear?
  • Where should my calls-to-action go?
  • What am I missing?

Do you want the good news?

An objective expert eye can give you the insights you’re after.

Imagine if your website did what it should – attract and convert more of your aligned clients

An objective opinion of your existing content might be just what you need right now. After all, you might not need a full website rewrite. Perhaps your headlines need some attention or you’re missing some calls-to-action. A few tweaks here and there might really move the needle and open up new opportunities:

  • New aligned clients and collaborations
  • The confidence to direct people to a site you’re proud of – that actually works
  • An improved customer journey and increased conversions.

Sounds good, right? It’s possible.

What’s included in a website copy audit?

You’ll get a custom audit report filled with valuable recommendations sent to your inbox. A 45-minute Zoom debrief is also included, to unpack the results and ask all your burning questions.

*Please note, while this audit will include some valuable technical analysis, the primary focus is an audit of your website content and structure. You can find a list of all inclusions below.

I look closely at five pages of your website through a:

Technical lens

I analyse your site speed, your titles and meta descriptions.

Content lens

I analyse the purpose, content hierarchy, readability and tone of each page, checking for a clear USP (unique selling proposition), appropriate calls-to-action, and content gaps and opportunities.

User Experience (UX) lens

I analyse how users navigate your website, checking the page structure and flow, making sure links work, that your site is optimised for mobile and your images make sense.

Competitor analysis

Discover your top competition in the search engines, to uncover content gaps or opportunities, and find out how to differentiate your business from theirs.

HERE’S HOW THE WEBSITE CONTENT AUDIT WORKS

Step 1: The audit

At the time of booking, you’ll be asked to nominate five pages of your site for the audit, including the homepage. There’s also space to mention any particular concerns so I can keep them front of mind. While I use several great tools to help me, this audit is my eyes – and website expertise – on your site, plus practical, actionable recommendations. I prepare your audit in PDF format, including a series of checkboxes, plus comments for each area of focus (technical, content, UX, competitor analysis).

NOTE: Your audit will be delivered to your inbox in approx. 5 business days. You’ll be offered Zoom debrief times that give you a chance to prepare any questions before we meet.

Step 2: The debrief

We’ll meet on Zoom to debrief your audit (check your confirmation email for the meeting link). Over 45 minutes, you can ask any questions you like to clarify details or recommendations. If you’re using the audit as a ‘testing ground’, it’s a great opportunity for us to get to know one another.

Step 3: The ball’s in your court

Action the recommendations yourself, enlist a copywriter (your choice) or we can tackle it together in 1:1 copy coaching.

The audit has helped me focus on what I can implement quickly and easily and the best way forward

We have never done any formal review of our website, which has been mashed together and morphed a million times over the past 9 years. I knew there would be plenty for you to investigate and guide me on (and quite simply I don’t have time to do it myself). The insights from the audit have given me direction as to where our focus should be. Whilst our website is not 100% driven by SEO, we still want it to reflect and be the best version of “us” that it can be, rather than be a wasted opportunity. I now have my “top three things” to focus on which makes my brain happy rather than overwhelmed.

The audit report was very thorough which I loved. The bullet points are like a “checklist” to me which I can work through in my own time. It was nice to have a combined report on both website copy, SEO tools and general advice which I can then choose how to implement. If we didn’t have the Zoom meeting together, it would have been quite overwhelming so I am very thankful for that. Our conversation helped me focus on what I can implement quickly and easily and the best way forward.

My copywriting niche is websites. I’ve lost count of how many I’ve written since 2016, but let’s just say I understand what works – and what doesn’t. Whether you’re a small business owner with a five-page site or a larger organisation, I can identify opportunities for improved user flow, clearer messaging and calls-to-action – among other things.

While this audit will include some valuable technical analysis, I’m a copywriter so the primary focus is an audit of your website content and structure. You can find a list of all inclusions above.

At the time of booking, you get to nominate five pages of your site for the audit. There’s also space to mention any particular concerns i.e. your reason for investing. While I use several great tools to help me, this audit is my eyes – and website expertise – on your site, plus practical, actionable recommendations.

When you go to book your audit, you’ll be asked to nominate five pages including the Home page so I know where you’d like me to focus my attention.

I’m now feeling way more confident about sharing the website and my offers as I launch my new business direction

I haven’t invested in any website services before as I’ve definitely always been a DIY person. What appealed to me about the audit was having a professional look over my content rather than second-guessing my abilities. Before the audit, I was unsure whether my new About page copy was going to hit the mark, or whether my offer copy was clear. I also wondered if my call to action was strong enough. The most helpful thing was finding out my new site hadn’t been indexed by Google – that was a major problem! Fortunately, apart from this, there weren’t major issues found, so I’m actually feeling way more confident about sharing the website and my offers as I launch my new business direction.
